Stones To Step On

I don’t know when I started calling this work
Years months and days
Results that I had come to expect
Nothing forthcoming
But maybe I’m not seeing things right
Sure we’ve come along
We climb a mountain and we
Get a high
But I want more than reasons why
More that stones to step on

I look up in the sunshine sky
All the shadows fall behind

I’ve held pieces of this dream
As long as I remember
Never quite what I expect
Long time coming
Answers don’t quite make it right
Where do I belong?
I build a castle in the sky
With stones I picked up as I climb
More than stones to step on

Another song about the castles we all dream about building. Life is so short, but there is so much time. I wrote this song in the 90s and always loved playing it.
